Early Intervention

The first three years of a child’s life are crucial to their overall development. Although all children are unique, it is generally expected that they will reach certain milestones during this time related to aspects such as their speech, cognitive function and mobility. When any of these milestones aren’t reached in the expected timeframe, the input of an Early Interventionist can be instrumental in identifying the cause of the issue and putting a plan in place to maximise the potential development of the child.

As highly experienced Early Interventionists, we work with children who struggle with a wide range of special needs, disabilities and general difficulties in learning or development.

Identifying any issues your child is experiencing at the earliest opportunity will give us the best chance in helping your child, along with minimising the need for any further intervention in the future.

Early Intervention FAQs

Early Intervention provides support for children under the age of three who are at risk of poor outcomes due to diagnosed or undiagnosed disabilities or developmental disorders. Early Intervention is family-centred and is based on strengths, concerns and priorities identified by the family.

Ultimately, the goal of Early Intervention is to empower parents and their children through tools and techniques that will help them overcome or best manage any challenges they are experiencing within their learning or development, and to provide the best possible foundation for the child’s future progress.

A common question parents ask is ‘what’s the difference between Early Intervention and private therapy?’. The answer depends on where you are based, as in some instances Early Intervention (EI) is delivered through special school or government programmes. If EI is not satisfactory then parents will seek private therapy alternatives.

However, how we work here at Joyeux is that our Early Intervention can be given on a private one to one basis or as part of group therapy. We work within schools just as we do within the homes of children, and in either scenario, our work is extremely effective in helping children and their families with whatever challenges they may be facing.

As always, if you are unsure which option is going to be the right one for your child, please contact us for further information.

Children may exhibit signs of autism as young as two or three years of age. Research has shown that Early Intervention can be extremely beneficial for children with autism, with some children even able to come off the spectrum later in their development due to the Early Intervention they received.

Early diagnosis and treatment of autism are therefore essential, and we would advise any parent, caregiver or teacher who suspects a child may have autism to contact us as soon as possible to avoid delaying any help or support the child may require.

Yes! Early Intervention has been proven to be extremely beneficial in helping children and their families if the child is experiencing any difficulty or delay with their learning or development. In fact, compared with not seeking Early Intervention, the outcomes for children are generally much worse across all areas of their development.

Of course, all children are unique and no two challenges are the same. That’s why, when you enquire about our Early Intervention services here at Joyeux, we will be able to give you more specific expectations.

In the meantime, if you’d like to read reviews of our Early Intervention services, please see our testimonials page.

As noted above, Early Intervention covers the first three years of a child’s life. Depending on the challenges a child is experiencing, Early Intervention may help to resolve any issues and the child can continue within mainstream education without further support.

However, this is not always the case, which is why it’s important that children and their families remain supported throughout the child’s learning and development.

We will be able to advise you on whether your child needs further support beyond Early Intervention. Joyeux also offers Educational Therapy programmes which help support children up to the age of eight.

Talking is a primary form of communication between children and their parents. If there are any delays or difficulties with a child’s speech, then it can be a frustrating experience for the child, especially as they may not be able to effectively communicate their wants and needs.

Speech therapy is one of the many facets that make up Early Intervention, and the techniques we employ within our sessions can focus on any specific challenges your child is having with their speech.

Common examples of speech disorders in children include (but are not limited to):

  • Articulation disorders
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders
  • Autism-related speech disorders
  • Childhood apraxia of speech
  • Dysarthria
  • Orofacial myofunctional disorders
  • Resonance disorders
  • Selective mutism
  • Stuttering

As with Early Intervention programmes in general, the earlier we are able to assess your child and advise on the most appropriate techniques to help them with their speech, the better.

Our goal is to get them ready for preschool and mainstream school within our speech therapy techniques, alongside building the child’s confidence, especially if they are struggling to communicate effectively with others.
